Adoption

Because every child deserves a family…

Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the child’s birth/biological mother or father.

“A fifth of all [South African] children—3.6 million—are orphaned, having lost one or both parents. Twenty-three percent of children are not living with their biological parents and more than half a million have become legal wards of the state in the foster care system, one of the highest rates in the world.” * UNICEF. (2011). South Africa: Annual Report 2010. Pretoria, South Africa.

“If only 7 percent of professing Christians around the world responded, every single orphan in the world would have a home.” Thomas Davis, Fields of the Fatherless

The Adoption Option

A family can make and keep a promise to a child that even the very best organization cannot… the promise of forever. Within a family, a child’s most fundamental needs are met within a context of unconditional love and belonging. It is the best structure ever created to care for children. Not a system, not an institution, but a family.

This is the belief that shapes our values, our culture and our operations every day.

Oasis Haven is not an adoption agency, rather we dedicate our time and resources to fill the gap between potential adoptive families, the children who need them and the relevant agencies involved in the adoption process both locally and internationally.

Oasis Haven executes the adoptions arm of our vision through five key processes:

  1. 1.Ensuring that children are declared adoptable wherever possible.
  2. 2. Liasing with Adoption Agencies and Private Adoption Social Workers.
  3. 3. Preparing the child emotionally, medically and legally for adoption.
  4. 4. Meeting with and training prospective adoptive parents.

  5. 5. Post adoption counselling for adoptive children and or their families by in house social workers.
